But I have always been very particular about visuals.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Nike colonized a tick.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Google colonized a circle with a line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">You want a logo that anybody can draw and identify. If a child who doesn&#8217;t speak English can draw a recognizable version of your logo, you&#8217;re golden.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*0Cr1SMwOYBfkaS6u_wZjIQ.png\" data-image-id=\"1*0Cr1SMwOYBfkaS6u_wZjIQ.png\" data-width=\"537\" data-height=\"234\" \/><figcaption class=\"imageCaption\">pretty but complicatd<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*LifLH89wvLXt8D4HbP7O0A.png\" data-image-id=\"1*LifLH89wvLXt8D4HbP7O0A.png\" data-width=\"536\" data-height=\"195\" \/><figcaption class=\"imageCaption\">way simpler, a child could replicate\u00a0it<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">McDonald\u2019s comes next with the golden M\u200a\u2014\u200ano translation necessary.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*-geFiUc3QKAhaWimKTqnEA.png\" data-image-id=\"1*-geFiUc3QKAhaWimKTqnEA.png\" data-width=\"713\" data-height=\"264\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Adidas did a good job with the three stripes<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Instagram did a killer job with its redesign. It represented a camera with just three strokes:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*tmUz8a-q_KgaypGTsPqWCw.png\" data-image-id=\"1*tmUz8a-q_KgaypGTsPqWCw.png\" data-width=\"272\" data-height=\"125\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">The important thing isn&#8217;t the colors, but that it can now be represented so simply:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*ncPUBxcveRh6mXSGG87OiQ.png\" data-image-id=\"1*ncPUBxcveRh6mXSGG87OiQ.png\" data-width=\"207\" data-height=\"209\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Facebook F<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Chanel C&#8217;s<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Nazi swastika<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Mercedes<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">HP<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Yahoo Y!\u200a\u2014\u200aSimilar to Virgin logo<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">BBC<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Superman<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Chevrolet<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Star of David<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Jesus<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Volkswagen<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">I&#8217;m still not sure how I feel about Uber&#8217;s redesign.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*NNXtJ0KWWwCic-Wqa69SkQ.png\" data-image-id=\"1*NNXtJ0KWWwCic-Wqa69SkQ.png\" data-width=\"332\" data-height=\"185\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">The frills on the outside are redundant and can be removed, that&#8217;s a trivial thing. Square within a circle is easy to remember\/visualize, but I&#8217;m not sure it means anything. Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc probably benefit from having complicated logos and would lose something if they oversimplified it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Sensual brands like Victoria&#8217;s Secret or Lady Godiva or Magnum ice cream\u200a\u2014\u200athey need their swirls and serifs to convey indulgence. Stripping that away would strip away the sex.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Disney deserves its swirls\u200a\u2014\u200ait&#8217;s a stylized version of Walt Disney&#8217;s signature, and it&#8217;s very smart to use such an iconic founder&#8217;s identity as part of the product. and castle\u2014 but their simplicity comes from mickey.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*ygbFN0Hbow0X6A38duRecw.png\" data-image-id=\"1*ygbFN0Hbow0X6A38duRecw.png\" data-width=\"247\" data-height=\"197\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">It&#8217;s a very clever move of them to put in Mickey Mouse into the &#8220;corporate logo&#8221;, because it evokes emotions when you look at it:<\/p>\n<figure class=\"graf--figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"graf-image\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-images-1.medium.com\/max\/800\/1*AxqwO_nW1s8cbH05SxoIFg.png\" data-image-id=\"1*AxqwO_nW1s8cbH05SxoIFg.png\" data-width=\"324\" data-height=\"131\" \/><\/figure>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Ogilvy uses a stylized version of it&#8217;s founder&#8217;s signature, which is a smart move despite the complexity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">YouTube\u200a\u2014\u200athe red arrow. Perfect. You can make cushion covers out of it. All sorts of simple merchandise. They colonized a red triangle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Twitter<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Starbucks\u200a\u2014\u200acan&#8217;t get too simple too fast, but you can see they&#8217;ve been progressively simplifying<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Could be better: NASA. Way too complicated. There&#8217;s a suggested redesign that cuts out too much of the text and makes it hard to read, but the slight<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Uber<\/p>\n<p class=\"graf--p\">Burger King should exploit their crown.
