@alphaanomics asked, “How one can find people with the same set of interest/ideology/work ( Nerds) on the internet?”
This stuff is so second nature to me that it kinda feels weird to answer the question explicitly, but I suppose it might be worth it for people who haven’t thought about it much
I would start by doing a bunch of googling around the interest to see what you can find/learn
lets say I want to learn about swords and become a Sword Guy. well, okay. who are the Sword people? what are the Sword communities? this is actually a funnily difficult example but it probably means I got the wrong word. but hey, there are a couple of sword shops in my city
so I would pay them a visit and ask them for any thoughts they might have about where I might find other sword nerds, are there any sword nerd events? but maybe I’m too shy to do that for now and I want more information. okay, sure thing. more internet stuff first:
I would check out all of these youtube videos and channels, subscribe to them. particularly I would look for smaller accounts – look, this guy Federico has only 3,000 views – I bet he’d reply to my comment if I asked a question. Hi @Fede_Duellist! Cool channel!
I would go to r/swords, sort by top, and read every single post so I can become well informed about sword jargon and lingo
I would do a twitter search for “sword twitter”, and… heyo new friends by this point I would already have bought a sword from the aforementioned shop, have a joke about sabres in my bio, and make my last 20 tweets all be sword jokes they’ll all follow me back
I would start my own sword tumblr too, probably – 4k people following the #, find and follow the interesting sword-sharing accounts, reblog, repost, make more friends
within about 2 months or so I would basically be up to speed on all the main points, the arguments, the sword influencer drama… “lol visa why would there be sword influencer drama” – of course there’s sword influencer drama. there’s always sword influencer drama.
so yea then maybe I might write a blogpost about my sword journey, make a “so what is studying the blade like anyway” meme sorta thing, etc, share it around with my new friends, probably end up becoming a respected member of the sword community replace “sword” with whatever
incidentally sword tiktok seems like it might be bigger or more active than any of the previous communities– you can repost/re…tok? other people’s tutorials, so that’s another way to make friends
