What is lust? Lust is fundamentally about conquest. Nobody lusts after what they already have.
Envy is the impulse to covet. It’s quite a complex impulse that has a lot of other impulses tied up with it- there’s an element of wrath, where you want to destroy something because you can’t have it. There’s an element of greed and gluttony, where you want to acquire and consume something that you can’t have, and an element of lust- of conquest.
Envy is about wanting what others have, and resenting them for being “more”, or having “more”. It’s also about feeling inadequate in comparison.
So how do you hack and leverage Envy?
First you have to realize than envy is inescapable. Everyone is different and has different circumstances. The only way it would be possible for envy to arise would be if everybody were equal, which is never going to happen. You will always find something to be envious about. A poor man may be envious of a rich man’s wealth, while the rich man might be envious of the poor man’s simple, carefree life.
Learn to appreciate what you have.
Seek peace and fulfillment over posessions and experiences.
