Taking requests!

I feel like I have a lot on my mind and that it would be a good idea to just write as much as I can without thinking too much so that I get as much of it out.

SEVEN SINS:

I want to complete my Hacking The Seven Deadly Sins series. I’ve already done Lust, Vanity, Wrath, Greed and Sloth- I still need to do Envy and Gluttony. After that I’ll do a summary post, perhaps entitled “General Principles of Sin-Hacking”. I would then like to write a book, or perhaps an e-book, on the subject of hacking the 7 Sins- it will be more well-researched, thorough and in-depth than the blog posts, providing historical and modern examples of how they work as well as clear direct applications to day-to-day life.

LEGION OF HEROES: what I want to do after I’m done with the 7 sins- a study of ideas of heroism, drawing parallels between mythology, literature, video games, sociology and other fun stuff.

GAME MECHANICS: What I want to do after Legion of Heroes. I’ll describe this at a later date.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY/MEMOIRS: I’ve been meaning to do a sort of autobiography, the memoirs of my life so far. Part of this will be vital in helping both my readers and I understand me better. I expect I should serendipitously derive value from that deeper understanding- I should develop a more clear understanding of what I ought to be doing with my time, and my life. I’d like to do a series of “reviews” of things that I believe have shaped my life and thinking so far.

STUDY OF JC RETAINEES AND DROPOUTS: I repeated a year in JC and that was quite a life-changing experience for me. I suspect that there are insights to be gleaned here that nobody has really done very much about.

WRITING FICTION: I’d like to write a “Great Singaporean Novel”- it’s hard to find any local writers that really resonate with me, that effectively describe the condition of the young Singaporean of the new millennium- so I’d like to start work on writing that. Of course, that’s a rather huge undertaking. I need to get to reading more local authors. I must start by doing short stories and brief sketches of people and ideas. I will use my Creative Writing category to begin this.

(2024 update: In 2017 I sketched out the draft of a book titled Make Some Noise, which was a start. I’d still like to return to this eventually when the time is right.)

BOOK REVIEWS. I own hundreds of books. Really, like at least 300 by now. I want to digest them properly, distill the good stuff and share them with others. My books cover a remarkably broad range of topics so I’d like to share them with others. I believe that doing this will help me further my understanding of what I need to accomplish.

MUSIC. It’s a big part of my life. I have a few fragments of songs that I’ve written here and there over the years. I’d like to consolidate them and record a proper album, which I will then sell online. I will use this venture to demonstrate (what I believe to be) an effective way of marketing and selling music online. I’m planning to give bass and guitar lessons- contact me if you’re interested! I also plan to do a series of covers of all the songs that have meant something to me in my life, especially those of local bands.

I think University is going to be a waste of money. I need to explain why. I want to build a syllabus for myself that’s crafted specifically for me to develop the skills, connections and other good things that people expect to get from paying for a university education, and then ace it- and by doing so effectively prove that University isn’t anywhere nearly as important as we make it out to be- or if it is, then it won’t be for very long in the future.

FINANCES, EMOTIONS: I want to write posts on financial and emotional management. Perhaps I might study these, do blog posts, eventually write books and maybe give courses on the matter. If I am no qualified yet, I aim to be. This ties in quite nicely with the DIY university idea. Things that they don’t teach you in school that you really ought to learn.

SOCIAL MEDIA/MARKETING: I want to build this blog into a sort of living, organic/dynamic portfolio and resume. I have already made a couple of friends through it. I aim to have 1,000 twitter followers and 200 tumblr followers and 100 Facebook Likes by the end of the year, without having to spend too much time on it. I plan to become a sort of consultant on social media marketing, at least among my peer group and community.

2014 Update: It took me longer than epected, but I have over 1,000 twitter followers, almost 300 tumblr followers and about 600+ FB Likes.

(2024 update: 80,000+ twitter followers)

FITNESS. I’d like to weigh 70kg by the end of the year, and 80kg by the end of the next- to build enough muscle mass to feel strong, confident and powerful. This will eliminate one of the oldest thorns in my side- a deep-rooted insecurity that I have carried with me since my childhood that I would be very glad to eliminate. I also want to learn to swim- yeah, I never bothered learning.

Update: Precise end goals, but unclear how exactly I was going to get there.

(2024 update: Am currently 93kg, aiming for 100kg, and feeling great about it. Still haven’t learned to swim and look forward to addressing that)

DECLUTTER. I need to get rid of the clothes that I don’t ever plan to wear again and the books that I don’t need. I’ll throw away what needs discarding and give away what others may want.

Update: Should’ve been more precise. How many things exactly was I planning to throw away?
