I’m late for LAN with the boys but I’m not leaving until I blog what’s on my mind, because I promised myself I would keep up with this!
Yesterday was one of those random days where I was bored of being at home, so I went over to Peninsula to meet Sherwin and Gabriel at Zen Music. Spent hours playing guitar and bass and came up with a very, very fun song idea. I can assure you that you will not be hearing this sort of song from 99% of the other local bands, because it’s a different kind of music altogether. You’ll know it when you hear it. I love me for being so original. π
Anyway, before I get overwhelmed with self-love there, we then went on to drop by a party at Costa Del Sol (which is within walking distance from my place) and then had dinner at Simpang. I am proud to say that I have converted several West-siders and a North-Easterner (who doesn’t really qualify as a true blue Eastie!) to Simpang-fanatics, after the tried the chicken rice at Tang Tea House and the Banana Ice Cream Tissue Prata at Spize.
We then proceeded to play LAN at Crossfire (or is it Crozzfire? I forget) until 3am, upon which me and Damien had to walk home because we had no cash for a cab. The air was crisp and cold and great for a walk anyway.
My dad was still awake, watching the US politics unfurl on CNN at 3am. I guessed that he didn’t realise I was out, and would be pretty mad at me if he realised I was out that late. So I sat in the swing outside my house (yes, I have a swing!) and listened to the news too. When it reached the sports he turned the TV off and went to bed. Which was abit of a bummer because I wanted to hear about Arsenal, but wasn’t too bad since I was cold and getting bitten by mosquitoes and really wanted to go to bed. It was past 4 when I got to bed, so I was sitting outside my house for a good hour! The ex-girlfriend happened to be awake so we passed time talking on the phone.

Part two of this post is about a ridiculously vivid dream I had, and I still remember very well hours later. It involved me and a bunch of bass players. They were from the same place as me, but I’ve never seen any of them before. I don’t think it was supposed to be Singapore- it sort of felt like an alternate reality. We went on some sort of tour across America, and America was rather different. Mind you, the whole world was rather different. Our hometown which we returned to at the end of the dream was cold and snowy but pleasant, kinda like Nibelheim in Final Fantasy 7. My bass was light blue, which was kind of strange because I’ve always been attracted to red, black, white and sunburst the most.
So anyway for some reason we were touring the US, which was not as developed as it is today, but full of beautiful places and people. The first place we went to was kind of like some sort of village where we made friends with the kids and played and stuff. It kind of felt like an Asian community, like something out of Nepal.
We took long train rides across the countryside- old, locomotive kinda trains, watching the greenery and the hills and scenery go by. We went to a hot, dusty and arid town, kinda like something out of cowboy movies. I think at some point we even had very clear states involved, I think we were in Arizona? I’m not 100% sure now. But there were horses and whiskey and everything.
I remember one of the other bass players had a purple bass with a shiny finish that was really awesome. Two of them were taller and bigger than me too, which was quite amusing when we wanted to take pictures together. (Yes, this is a RIDICULOUSLY VIVID DREAM and I actually felt like I had strong friendships with these fictional fellas I’ve never met in my life). We weren’t professional bass players or anything, it was sort of like a learning journey or pilgrimage or something. We were all about the same age.
At some point in time, somebody died in the crossfire of some civil conflict while we were traveling, like a gang turf war of some sort. We swore we would bring his bass back to his family. I think it was too dangerous for us to stay to try and retrieve his body.
I remember alot of wonderful colours- bright orange skies and mountains. Strangely, I don’t remember anything about any women. It was alot about brotherly camaraderie. I remember at some point in time it felt so real I was thinking “I’ve got to go and write about this on my Livejournal!”
And, this is going to sound abit strange considering I met these guys for the first time at 430am today in my dreams and will probably never see them again, but they felt ridiculously real and I miss them like crazy. I feel like I’ve been through a huge journey, forging friendships and learning about myself. In an alternate reality, of sorts.
I actually feel vaguely… wiser, older and more worldly.
This is ridiculous. I’m going to play LAN with the boys.
haha. Simpang ftw! It’s totally worth the 1.5/2 hr trip down just to eat man!
or in my case, 15-20 minutes π
I think you had an alternate life like that! Either that or its some wish fulfillment thing. Cool.
