3Dash1 – 7/10

Really good bass and drums. Andhika’s tone is just so damn sweet. It was really not Ashik’s day, his guitar went off early in the first or second song, his strap came off and he dropped his pick in the last. Still, great performances. I’d love to see more originals and more of Andhika’s and Nashir’s bass/drum goodness. I’d love to see Andhika sing and talk more too.

Velvet Rose – 3/10

Didn’t like them. Drummer was alright. Lead guitarist was competent but looked like a malay Yeow Boon who was blur, insecure and not having fun. Which lead guitarist stands behind the rhythm guitarist? Speaking of rhythm guitar, I couldn’t hear it. Boo hoo. The bass player played well but also had image problems- what’s up with the emo eyes and the I-wish-I-was-Metal look? Mohawk and eyeliner on fat Qadir-lookalike don’t mix. Shave your head and ditch the band T-shirts, brother. The female vocalist has some potential, but I couldn’t hear her. The male vocalist looks undernourished. Covers, covers, covers. Boring.

Typewriter – 5/10

Cute band! Flashback to the older local music, slightly punk but very fun older happy-school rock. It was nice to see the Electrico boys on the bass and drums. Desmond plays some mean bass! Guitarist Patrick was cute. Singer was funny, especially the look on his face when he said “Every Night” and I said “Every Night You Masturbate”. Priceless. xD And nice bass solo on one of the songs. Melodic. Nice drums too, on par with Nashir.

Peepshow – 6/10

I couldn’t hear the vocals much again, but the new lead singer reminds me of dear Mr Farhan Shah. (Apart from the fact that floyd looks better but probably sings worse). I really liked the lead guitarist- great phrasing, great tone, great playing. Rhythm guitarist was boring. Bass player was alright. I can’t remember the drummer.

West Grand Boulevard – 6/10

I don’t have anything against Daphne Khoo but really, WGB had MUCH more potential and aura and personality with Bryan as their lead singer. Sorry Daphne. I’d actually prefer to see Dharma singing more. And the drums are sex. Really good sex. Easily one of the best drummers in Singapore, although maybe a bit too enthusiastic to show all his skills in every song. But it’s part of the WGB sound. Bassist is decent, but his image is kinda funny. Rhythm guitar is alright. Songs were alright but I couldn’t hear Daphne! Sorry soundmix people but I thought the mics were really too soft.

Lucid Vapor – 4.5/10

Better than Velvet Rose, but very predictable and kinda bleh. Covers band too, and all the guys have such everyday personalities! Were some of you guys from VS? Bassist doesn’t have the funk to cover RHCP. But it was okay la. I suppose everyone was just impatient for Ronin.

Ronin – 7.5/10

Delivered. The performance I’ve gotten used to seeing and came to see. Sean played well- and I never realised that his Les Paul was by Epiphone! I always assumed it was a Gibson. So all you guys who complain that it’s in the gear, it’s not that big a deal. =P Derryn was fun, Levan was fun. Bang’s drums were boring. I do believe that he’s holding back some of Ronin’s potential by playing the same basic rock drums on every single song. But his backup vocals are vital.

Cyanide – 2/10

Fucked up and sounded like a mess. Weren’t ready for a gig on this scale. Give/gave girl bands a bad name. Sorry. I hope you guys improve and do better at your next gig!

Hyperteria ?/10
