da vinci code nc16

Is it preferential treatment we are seeing in Singapore that the Da Vinci Code movie wasn’t banned, but supposedly any movie depicting Islam in a similar manner would’ve been? Nobody would make a film portraying the religion of islam in a blasphemous manner in the first place, so it’s hard to tell.

Of course if christians started bombing people because of the movie then it too would be banned.

But what sort of a society would that be? Everybody bombs everyone for offending them, everybody is scared to raise new ideas and suggestions for fear of being killed.

There was an article by a muslim girl in the papers a week or so back- she wished that there could be a Da Vinci code for muslims, or something along those lines. Logic being that if they could accept it, it would increase awareness amongst themselves in their own religion, and it would lessen the idea that muslims are violent and whatnot.

She mentioned how some muslim guy yelled at a woman, “you should fear Islam because we have nuclear weapons!”. How does that help anything or anybody?

Fear is pointless.

Would the writer have written the book to try and put down the religion? I really doubt so… He simply wants to raise a “what would it have been like if?” Certainly, it’s when you question your own views from several angles that you strengthen them.

But ultimately how you react is up to you and how you’ve been conditioned to react by your parents, experiences and those around you- education is the answer as always.

    That article you mentioned

The article that you mentioned was in fact written by Marina Mahathir. Apart from being the daughter of Malaysia’s former PM, she is a well-known critic and activist in Malaysia. Her article first appeared in the Malaysian newspaper The Star and was later reproduced in Singapore’s Today. It is well worth a read.

Too much attention has been given to the Da Vinci Code. Ultimately they want to make money, so such a controversial book would most defnintely bring in the bucks. End of big story on how they want to test our faith.

    They just want the money.

        what’s wrong with wanting money?

anyway, the church itself gives the book publicity by talking about it so much. A book is only controversial if you make a controversy about it.

I do agree that too much attention has been given to it- we should bring our attention to why that is being done instead.

Au contraire – see Theo van Gogh, who died for it.
